The Secret

Have you heard about The Secret? The author has been on Oprah and Slate Magazine has examined it. Oh, and the book -- there is an audiobook and DVD as well -- has been on the New York Times best seller list for 33 weeks. The secret is the law of attraction. Simply put: whatever you think about comes to you.

This New Age book about the power of positive thinking is rather polarizing. Day to Day had a short piece on it and positive psychology today.

While I agree that it is important to maintain a positive mental attitude and vision, I feel the secret leaves MUCH to be desired.

There is a glaring absence of the HARD WORK that must accompany a good attitude. When watching the DVD I found myself getting more and more angry as each moment passed. The DVD sends a message that you can get rich quick just by imagining yourself there and allowing "the universe" to drop such things in your lap as winning lotto tickets and that diamond necklace you've been looking at in the store window.

I would dare say that much more than just a positive attitude has gone into the creation, production and sales of "The Secret" money-making machine.

Remember the old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true it probably is."?!
